Our clients at Murray Lane moved from Ontario to enjoy the beautiful East Coast and continue their bed and breakfast, Woodhaven Country Lodge.
The owners contacted us to build their custom guest house. We communicated long distance, at first, which made things a little difficult when trying to settle on a design. Many phone calls & emails back and forth left us getting to know each other really well. It is important that we build relationships as this is the foundation on which we build our business. We established clear and reliable channels of communication to ensure that our client’s vision was accurately conveyed and executed.
Once the design was established we were excited to get to work. Before building, we needed to pay meticulous attention to zoning laws, building codes, and permit processes. We discovered the existing septic system was not big enough to accommodate a guest house, so another system needed to be installed. Building a second home on the property posed some challenges, but with careful planning, coordination, and communication we were able to build a charming guest house for our clients.
Located directly on the ocean, our client’s guest house offers stunning views of the water from the kitchen, dining room, and living room. This cozy, two-bedroom home boasts a spacious living area, a fully equipped modern kitchen, and a private deck where you can relax and enjoy the soothing sounds of the waves. The pine ceiling throughout adds a touch of rustic elegance, infusing the space with warmth and character. The custom stone fireplace serves as the focal point when you first walk into the home. It was crafted with precision and tailored to the homeowner’s preferences, creating a gathering place for their guests.
It was important for our clients to keep their new build unique and add a personalized touch, so we incorporated beach-found rock into the bathroom design; cedar shingles on the exterior to create a timeless look; and an outdoor living space that offers a peaceful haven. The interior and exterior design of the home was planned to create an aesthetic that celebrates the natural beauty of the East Coast.
